What's Harrisons Vision

My vision for School District 163 is rooted in a deep belief that the arts are essential to nurturing the whole student—building creativity, confidence, and connection. I am dedicated to expanding our arts programs and opportunities, ensuring every student has access to meaningful creative experiences. One of my greatest hopes is to see a state-of-the-art auditorium built at the Performing Arts Campus a welcoming space where students can showcase their talents, build community, and feel proud of their accomplishments.

This vision is inspired by the work and heart of my mentor and former board member, Melvin Pumphery, whose passion for education and the arts has left a lasting impact on our district. I am committed to continuing his legacy by working tirelessly to create a future where every student in our district feels supported, valued, and inspired to reach their fullest potential through the power of the arts.

Together, we can build a stronger, more vibrant community where the arts thrive and every young person has the opportunity to shine.

KEY ISSUES
Test Scores
Improving student test scores will be a top priority. I support data-driven strategies, academic intervention programs, and professional development that empowers teachers to close achievement gaps and help every student succeed.
Diversity Equity and Inclusion
I will champion inclusive policies and programs that ensure all students and staff feel safe, seen, and supported. This includes expanding DEI training, culturally relevant curriculum, and equitable access to opportunities across the district.
Fair Wages
As we enter a key negotiations period when I plan to run, I will stand for fair and competitive compensation for all staff. Teachers and support professionals deserve wages that reflect their dedication and impact on our students' lives
Performing Arts
I will advocate for more performing arts programs across the district, push for modernized band and choir rooms, and work toward building a dedicated performing arts auditorium—a space that celebrates student talent and creativity.
STEM and Agriculture
To prepare students for the future, I’ll support adding AI learning tools to our STEM curriculum, ensuring our students are gaining real-world skills that match an ever-changing workforce.

Our FFA and agricultural programs offer hands-on, career-connected learning. I want to grow these programs to reach more students, provide leadership opportunities, and connect learning to sustainability and food systems.
Strengthening Parent & Community Engagement
I believe transparency and collaboration are vital. I will:

  • Bring back the District Board Newsletter to keep families informed
  • Encourage regular meetings between the School Board and PTO groups
  • Propose a Community Engagement Committee to ensure families, students, and local partners have a voice in district decisions
