New Leadership Delivering Results for Our Community

Dear Community,

As a lifelong member of our school district and a proud graduate of District 163 and Rich East High School, I’m excited to share that I’m running for a seat on the School District 163 Board of Education. This community helped shape who I am, and I’m ready to give back in a meaningful way.

I invite you to take a moment to read my page and learn more about my journey—from student to staff member, and now candidate. My experiences in our schools and my continued work in education have prepared me to serve with purpose, compassion, and a focus on what matters most: our students.

Thank you for your time, and I hope to earn your support!

Warmly,

Joshua Harrison

About Me.

As a proud alumnus of Park Forest–Chicago Heights School District 163 and a lifelong resident of Park Forest, I am deeply committed to the success and well-being of our students. Raised as the middle child of eight by my single mother, I experienced firsthand the strength and resilience of our incredible community.

My educational journey began right here in District 163, where I attended kindergarten through 8th grade, an experience that laid the foundation for my academic and professional pursuits. I continued on to Rich Township High School, where I proudly graduated in 2022.

Proven Leadership and Classroom Experience

From 2021 to 2024, I served District 163 in several critical capacities that allowed me to support students both academically and behaviorally.

My roles included:

  • Head of the High School Tutor Program: Leading academic support initiatives to help our students excel in their studies. Taking a once struggling program, with only 1 of the 5 sites having a tutor, within 1 month of my employment I was able to fully staff all buildings for the remaining 2 years of the X-STEAM program.

  • Discipline Assistant: Working closely with faculty and administration to foster a safe, positive, and productive educational environment at Barack Obama School.

  • Principal’s Secretary & Assistant Grant Site Coordinator: Managing building payroll, financial records, and grant compliance at Michelle Obama School to ensure operational accountability.

Expanding Educational Impact

To broaden my experience, I transitioned to Rich Township District 227, where I served as an Assistant to the Associate Principal of Educational Services. During this time, I also took on the role of Night School Biology Co-Teacher, expanding my instructional reach into the sciences and supporting diverse learning needs outside of traditional school hours.

Currently, I am a Math Department Assistant at D.D. Eisenhower High School. In this role, I assist the department with teaching subjects like Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Honors counterpart coursework, using data analysis to create targeted intervention plans for student success.

Academic and Civic Foundation

My professional background is supported by a strong foundation of service and continuous learning:

  • Education: I hold an Associate in Political Science from Prairie State College and am pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics at Grand Canyon University.

  • Civic Service: I am a former staffer for Robin Kelly and serve as the CEO and Board President of CAB Studios and Recs. NFP.

  • Credentials: I am a licensed Illinois Paraprofessional and a commissioned Notary.

Why I Am Running

My candidacy is driven by a passion for education and a desire to give back to the community that shaped me. I aim to bring a unique, multi-dimensional perspective to the School Board, combining my firsthand experience as a former district student, a classroom instructor across multiple subjects, and an administrative professional.

Together, we can ensure every student in SD-163 has the resources, support, and leadership they need to thrive.
